This regulation was established to provide a system for the collection, use, and dissemination of information gathered during the underwriting process. When an applicant for insurance signs the application, they give the insurer the right to check driving records, MIB, credit reports, and consumer investigative reports. A signed application authorizes the insurer to collect information for 30 months. If they have not done so by then a new authorization must be obtained.
